Drawing A Day 183

Wood Nymph Flowers

What if all the flowers had the ability to speak. What stories they could tell. Ah the power of story, of remembering the past, conjuring up the future, sharing the moment.
Had a great bike ride on the towpath yesterday. Saw lizards, butterflies, dragon flies, turtles, squirrels and birds of all colors. The green canopy was lush and my imagination stirred up.

Drawing A Day 182

Cone Flowers

You know summer is in full swing when the cone flowers pop with their hilarious shades of pink and yellow. They brighten any day. These fun flowers are also the basis for remedies made with their immune building powers aka Echinacea. I've always been fascinated by the process of seeing a flower and then finding its inner healing powers. Another great metaphor for life. Are scientists attracted to the outer beauty first?

Drawing A Day 181

Gazing Thoughtfully

Maybe I slept too much. Feeling a bit muddle headed. Need to get clear and sharp for the day. Making art helps regain my clarity. Better already. Or maybe it's just the weather; heavy humid air with promises of rain should clear things up.

Drawing A Day 180

Crook of the Tree Haven

In honor of my 180th drawing, take a 180'. Go look at the world with a new view. See it through the eyes of someone else. An elder who is loosing their vision, or missing the subtle phrases from hearing loss. Or a newborn reaching out those oh so sweet little hands. Art students are taught early on to look at life with an emphasis on perspective. Choose a sight line, frame a composition. It is your unique vista. Open your eyes to a wider view or narrow in and get to the details. Shift, change, renew.

Drawing A Day 179

Full Moon Reflections

A restful day planned. Need to recharge for the upcoming week. Preparing for new projects and supporting long term programs.
Saw how an ipad can be used as a very effective drawing board and feel smitten. Heard from Shanghai Celia through the wonders of Skype. She is still happily learning new culture traditions. Hope to get on my bicycle later on today and enjoy jazz and dinner with artists and friends.

Drawing A Day 178

Moon on a Limb

Danced into the wee hours then got up early to watch the kayak racers on fish ladder on the Potomac. Beautiful sunny day. Stood on the bridge and had great sight lines for the race. The constant roaring of the water and the swirling is mesmerizing. Amazing to see these paddlers and their brightly colored boats swishing through the fast moving current. Need a nap before helping out at the Potomac Festival this afternoon. Come here the band and be part of the fun!! 4-11 at Bretton Woods Country Club on River Road.

Drawing A Day 174

Sunrise Striation II

Still not working, but managed to find a copy and paste way to show you the image. Not perfect but doable.
Can't figure out why my images won't upload this morning. Maybe the blog is tired. After all, I've posted 173 images so far and still have 192 days left in this year of drawings.
Summer started with cool air and sunshine. Looks promising. Hope to edit this post later today and get that image to you. Thanks for being patient.

Drawing A Day 172

Four Muses in Aqua

Celebrated Father's Day by seeing a new play called, "the History of Kissing" at Studio Theater. Good storytelling, some laughter, some awe. Miss my Dad. I do my best to continue his thoughtful spontaneous responses to crisis', to bring a positive spin to those who aren't feeling so upbeat. Need to conjure up the muses, bring on the ancestors and get creative.

Drawing A Day 168

Face in the Crowd

Whirlwind day! Volunteered with my kids at the US OPEN. Saw three champion golfers. Heard clapping on several occasions. We were impressed with the shear enormity of the event and all the planning and dollars that must go into it. What a volunteer base!!
Then change of clothes and off to the Nat/Cardinals game and for the first time, I witnessed a Nat's win. They pulled it out in the top of the 11th inning. And to top off the joyfulness, we stopped at a new pub, Sam Beckett's in Shirlington for dancing with the 19th Street Band.
It was a day of seeing new faces, feeling the positive energy that a sporting event can create.

Looking Like a Crescent

Veiled by some light cloud coverage a nearly full moon looks like a crescent. How caddy of mother nature. And what a metaphor. Working with young interns, like the moon, full of potential, just needing some guidance to expose their capable selves. Tap into the wealth of interns ready to support artists, administrators and other professionals. Need help finding an intern? Check out my friend Cindy; theinternlady.com

Typical Washington weather; just when you feel like it won't get better, the winds shift and it changes to perfection. Had a wonderful bike ride this morning and plan on being outside for as much of the day as possible. Enjoy!!

Mom Time

My good friend and poet Sherri reminded me how precious the time is that we spend with our children. Back from college or just ready to get on the summer time schedule. Big energy and a bit of ease. Goes so fast, best to be very present and embrace the moments.

Drawing A Day 159

This Chaotic World

Reading about some artists that do their best work towards the end of their long lives, and some artists that change course near the end to accommodate physical changes to their bodies. And of course those artists that shine only for a brief time and die young. Inspiring stories. But even if you never end up in the history books, your personal art making works in your favor; improves your physical and mental well being.

Spiral Body Lines

What if tattoo's were more about body design? Read somewhere that 60% of US population have tattoo's. Now I'm seeing photo's of tattoo's on car windows as sunblock screens. I'm guessing the photo's are of the owner's tattoo's. Amazing what art can inspire.

Drawing A Day 153

Pondering Intentions

Twitter, e-mail, Facebook, texting, voice mail, land lines, cell phones, smart phones, letters, blogs. It's a wonder why we are not in constant communication with each other. And yet, momentary lulls sometimes cause hearts to flutter and wonderful opportunities to slip by. Choose one and say hello, send an appreciation when you are thinking about someone. I'm guessing Verizon will be giving away 3G Smart phones as we re-up our contracts and then e-mail becomes as instant as texting and phone calls. I'll be able to blog from anywhere that has their service. And when will technology go global and make the connection universal??
